Hey guys! I hope you're having a wonderful week so far! If not, well the weekend is almost here. So hang in there! ;)
Today I am going to be talking about a topic which I am sure you all must be curious about. Well, I certainly was before starting out with Keto! It is - "How does Keto affect your social life? Will I never be able to go out and eat or party or drink? What exactly is going to change?"
Now to be completely fair, these three questions will always come no matter what diet you're following. That is the whole point of following a diet right? To bring a certain amount of discipline and control over your life, diet and health. To be mindful of what you're eating or drinking and in what quantity. So let me give you a few examples of how I like to handle social gatherings and outings while I am on Keto.
While deciding to go out or even ordering in, unless I want to make it a "Cheat Day", I always opt in for protein-based food items. Some examples are Tandoori Chicken, Grilled Chicken, Grilled Basa or Butter Chicken. If I am in the mood for some Chinese items, I usually opt in for Chili Chicken, Sesame Chicken or something spicy. Now obviously your fat macros are going to be impacted in that you're not going to consuming as much Fats as you should. BUT what is important to remember is that you're not consuming way too many Carbs either. If your dish contains some sort of Cheesy/White sauce, then that's even better!
For vegetarians, you can opt for some dishes like Paneer Butter Masala, Tawa Paneer, Mushroom-based dishes etc. Do avoid lentil-based dishes like Rajma, Chole because they are an absolute no-no on Keto (unless ofcourse it's a "Cheat Day" or a "Treat yo-self" kinda day! ;)
As far as drinking goes, it's not a secret that you're absolutely not supposed to drink while on Keto. Now that might be difficult for you to follow if you're someone who often likes to have a beer or a glass of wine and chill. My advice to you would be to make a schedule or a planner and have a drink or two occasionally. Stick to hard liquors like Whiskey, Brandy, Tequila along with both Red and White wines. Completely avoid BEERS! Or any Cocktails, Mocktails, drinks with sodas etc. These drinks are high in carbs and will kick you out of Ketosis.
And last but not the least - DESSERTS! Being a huge dark chocolate and Cheesecake addict, I know the struggle all too well. I do occasionally have a Cheesecake or a Dark Chocolate cake when I am in the mood. But yeah, here I would advise you to go for options which have comparatively less sugar than others. A dark chocolate pastry would be the perfect example for this. You can also make some Chocolate fat bombs at home which honestly taste so good and are Keto friendly too! They will completely satisfy your sweet tooth and will keep you in Ketosis as well! :D I will be posting an absolutely delish fat bombs recipe soon! So stay tuned! ;)
So, the other day I had to go and meet my sister at LPQ and this is what I had:

This platter was called "The Glocal" and had some Grilled Chicken, Prawns, Mutton, Hummus and Lettuce leaves! It tasted incredible and we had a lot of guilt-free fun having it!
We had also ordered for some Roasted Chicken with Spinach Sauce , which looked something like this:

Now obviously we were quite full from the first plate and decided to pack this. But yeah, you get the drift. I obviously didn't eat the bread they had given in the second plate. But like i said, you can't completely avoid carbs when you go out or order in. You just need to make your choices as Keto-friendly and carb-free as possible!
